North Stars Baseball 12U won big over the Alaska Glacier Bears 9-2 on Saturday to start of the participation in the Fraunzie Wylie Memorial Tournament with a bang. North Stars 12U fired up the offense in the first inning when AJ Geyer drove in one with a single. The fourth inning proved to be the deciding factor however, with the Stars notching four runs in the thanks in large part to a home run by Matt Kim – his first of the season.
Not to be outdone by himself on with the barrel, Kim also earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for North Stars Baseball hurling four and 1/3 innings. His day ended in the 5th after allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out 12. Eli Taylor threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen to secure the win.
It was a day for long balls for the Stars as they left the yard three time in the game. Kim’s four bagger lead things off in the second inning. AJ Geyer went for the long ball in the third inning followed in the fifth inning by Brian Bast’s big fly. North Stars Baseball racked up seven hits in the game. AJ (3-3, HR, 2 RBI) and Matt (2-2, HR, 3 RBI, 3 R) collected multiple hits for the good guys. North Stars Base runners where active too – stealing six bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Kim led the way with two.
