Founded in 2003 as an extension of Interior Baseball League, North Stars Baseball Club is a competitive travel baseball club that uses advanced training techniques delivered by accredited baseball coaches in Fairbanks, AK to develop high quality baseball players in the Interior. By focusing on player development – administered through structured practices, league games, tournaments and showcases – our coaches have been able to assist in the advancement of young athletes to accomplish their goal of playing competitive baseball through High School or Legion ball. Armed with an experienced coaching staff, North Stars Baseball offers a variety of programs available to players of all ages and levels of ability with the same goal: To be the best baseball player they can be.

North Stars Baseball is dedicated to developing young athletes into quality young men through baseball. The mission of the organization focuses on building the exceptional skills and the learning of life lessons to become quality baseball players.

North Stars Baseball Club operates out of Fairbanks, AK and serves all of the Fairbanks North Star Borough including Ft Wainwright and Eielson military bases.

Because outdoor fields aren’t playable until late May, teams rely heavily on off-season indoor training. Practices take place in local school gyms, indoor turf spaces, and batting cages to focus on mechanics, conditioning, and pitching fundamentals while snow is still on the ground.

The playing season for North Stars Baseball travel clubs is highly condensed due to the climate and field availability due to weather. Tryouts typically take place in early April (or late March). The outdoor playing season in Alaska, taking full advantage of the “Midnight Sun,” runs from late May through early August, culminating in the State Tournaments.

Because of the shortened regular season window due to climate, the organization sometimes arranges for athletes to participate in winter showcases and tournaments. North Stars Baseball offers an impressive list of highly qualified coaches who specialize in teaching the game of baseball to athletes in a digestible way that maximizes the athlete’s development opportunity.

North Stars Baseball hold our coaching staffs to a high standard, as travel baseball requires more advanced instruction than recreational leagues. Head coaches have extensive playing or coaching experience at the youth, high school or collegiate level. Furthermore, coaches are required to pass rigorous national background checks and complete SafeSport (abuse awareness) training. Many staffs also maintain active USA Baseball certifications and emphasize ongoing professional development—ranging from advanced pitch-tracking systems to mental performance coaching—ensuring players receive modern, safe, and accountable leadership.

Unlike recreational leagues where playing time is evenly distributed, North Stars Baseball Club deploys a Game Time Equity model for athletes and their desire to start, participate, and earn playing time on the diamond during games. Athletes build up equity through their attendance, attitude, and aptitude regarding the game of baseball and their commitment to themselves, their teammates, and the team.

Considerably more than in the Lower 48. Due to Fairbanks’ geography and the need for competitive matchups, teams frequently travel down the Parks or Richardson Highways for weekend tournaments in Anchorage, the Mat-Su Valley, and the Kenai Peninsula. Older divisions may also fly out of state for regional showcases aimed at providing a memorable experience for the athletes and exposure to scouts and coaches at the next.

During the regular playing season, athletes and parents should expect to travel out of town 1-3 weekends per month. Practices are typically during the week (2-4 scheduled), with tournament and series played on the weekends (3-4 games depending on tournament set up). 

North Stars Baseball supports and encourages multi-sport participation in our athletes. However, there are baseball training opportunities during the offseason that athletes can participate in to keep their baseball skills sharp. Because the outdoor window is short, the schedule is intense. Players can expect multiple practices per week, combined with multi-game doubleheaders or weekend-long travel tournaments. Families should be prepared for baseball to be their primary weekend commitment throughout June and July.

Travel baseball requires a significant financial commitment. Base registration and team fee is $605 (which includes uniform(s), equipment deposit, tournament registrations, and association fees). Additional costs for the athlete/parent could include travel, lodging, and optional team wear due to travel requirements.

North Stars Baseball field teams across standard youth divisions, usually including 10U (8-10 years old), 11U, 12U, 13U, and 14U. Age cutoffs  follow standard PONY national guidelines for eligibility based on their age in the spring of that playing year.

Beyond the standard required travel gear—a high-quality bat, glove, helmet, and cleats—Alaskan baseball requires preparation for extreme temperature swings. Players need moisture-wicking base layers, cold-weather under-gear, and team hoodies, especially for early morning tournament games or late-night May matchups when temperatures drop rapidly.

Yes, and it is highly encouraged! Many youth athletes in the Interior also play competitive hockey or soccer during the winter. Coaches generally support multi-sport participation but ask for proactive communication regarding schedule overlaps, particularly during the transition months of April and May when winter sports wrap up and baseball begins.

Travel baseball is highly competitive and is designed for players who have outgrown the pace of local recreational leagues. There are important similarities and differences between competitive travel baseball and recreational baseball. Both teach many valuable life skills, such as work ethic, good sportsmanship, teamwork and bouncing back from adversity. But they differ drastically when it comes to time commitment and competitiveness.

Travel Baseball, and North Stars Baseball Club, is built for athletes that have fight and desire to compete for a spot in the lineup (like they’ll have to do if they make it to college ball) and can be a great option for baseball competitors. A player doesn’t need to be a fully polished superstar to make a roster, but they do need a solid baseline of fundamental mechanics—such as consistent throwing accuracy, proper fielding posture, and a comfortable swing. Even more critical than raw talent is “coachability”. The ideal fit is a dedicated athlete who brings maximum effort, pays attention to detail, and genuinely wants to put in the hard work required to develop their physical and mental game.

Yes. Because travel and indoor facility rental costs are high in the Interior, local clubs rely heavily on community support. Organizations frequently organize team fundraisers (like 50/50 raffles) and offer sponsorship packages where local businesses can offset costs in exchange for logo placement on banners or team jerseys.
