Both pitching staffs had their hands full on Sunday in the semi-final showdown between North Stars Baseball 12U and 907 Baseball Club Glacier Bears 12U at the Fraunzie Wylie Memorial Tournament in Anchorage. 907 Baseball Club got things started in the first inning when an error scored one run for the Glacier Bears. North Stars pulled away for good however with five runs in the third inning. In the third frame, shortstop Eli Taylor singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. Third baseman Brian Bast followed drawing a walk, which scored another run, only to see catcher AJ Geyer clear the bases with a mammoth homer on the first pitch of the at bat to near straight away dead center.
Stephen Langer was the winning pitcher for the North Stars. The righthander allowed eight hits and six runs over six innings, striking out four and walking one on 87 pitches. The complete game was the first of the season for Langer.
North Stars Baseball launched two home runs on the day, Taylor’s four bagger in the fourth inning and Geyer’s yard in the third inning capping a big third inning. North Stars tallied seven hits in the game. Eli, Brian, and AJ each managed multiple hits for the Stars. Eli led North Stars Baseball with three hits in three at bats. Eli led North Stars Baseball 12U with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with ten stolen bases total.
The club will get a short rest and before meeting the Drillers in the Championship game at 2:00pm.
