For the first time this season, North Stars Baseball 12U pitchers didn’t allow a single hit in a game. Opening their play out of state in Portland, OR at the Northwest Season Finale Showcase, 12U defeated the Northwest Diamond Sport 11U team 10-2 on Friday. Brian Bast (who entered the game in relief) struck out the last batter he faced to get the last out of the game in style.
In the first inning, North Stars Baseball 12U got their offense started in grand fashion after a quick 1-2-3 inning from pitching starter Stephen Langer. The North Stars notched three runs in the bottom half of the first inning with two of them coming on a 1 out triple by Stars third baseman AJ Geyer which was slashed to right field. North Stars tacked on four more in the fourth inning thanks to a bases loaded walk by Brayden Witt and a single by Matt Kim. North Stars Baseball 12U racked up seven hits total in the early morning game. Geyer and Elias Powell each managed multiple hits for the North Stars. Stars Baseball stole eight bases during the game as two players stole more than one and led by Kim who led the way with three.
Stephen Langer (3.0 INN, 0 Hits, 6 SO) got the win for the North Stars after drawing the start for game one. Stephen threw three innings needing just 29 pitches on 23 strikes. Bast threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen facing the last nine batters and punching out 3 of them.
North Stars gets an extended rest with the win and will pick up pool play Saturday morning.
